1. Hotel location

How far is the hotel from the main street and the beach?
The hotel is at 4 minutes walking from the beach and at only 1 minute from the main street (Via Roma). To reach the main street you have to go through some steps into our garden or walk along the small private driveway. If you have problems walking, please consider that both ways are a bit steep.

Is it difficult to walk from the hotel to the main street or to the beach?
If you have problems doing steps or walking it can be a bit difficult. Otherwise everybody can do it. If you come to Cinque Terre you have to know that to reach many places you have to do steep walkways. If you come here for hiking the distance from the main street to the hotel will not be a problem. But if you are looking for a place on the beach, with elevator and no steps at all, our hotel is not the place you are looking for.

How far is the beginning of the hiking path to Vernazza and the other Cinque Terre towns?
It is at only 4 minutes walking.

How far is the closest restaurant?
It is at 1 minute walking.

2. Rooms

Do all rooms have air conditioned and private bathroom with showers?
Yes.

Do all rooms have hair dryers?
Yes.

Do all rooms have a fridge and a safe?
Yes.

Are rooms no smoking?
Yes, our rooms are no smoking. In every room we put the no smoking sign. Smokers can smoke on the room balcony. But in Italy the Italian law allows people smoking in hotel rooms because they are considered a private area and not a public area like the lobby or the corridors. So if someone smokes in the room we cannot make anything because the law allows him to smoke.

If my room has no view or if it has a garden view, is there a terrace in the hotel where I can seat and enjoy the view of the sea?
Yes, you can come and seat in the lobby balcony which is available from 06:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

If a room has no view, where is it overlooking at?
Rooms with no view and no balcony have a window overlooking some walls on the back of hotel.

What does the room rate include?
At our hotel the room rate always includes breakfast and all taxes (VAT).

Do you have a special discount package for just married couple?
No.

Do you have a special discount for airline employee?
No.

3. Check-in and check-out

What is the earliest time I can check-in?
Rooms are surely available starting from 2:00 p.m., but if you want to check-in earlier you can come to the hotel and leave your luggage at the reception desk, if the room is already available you can check-in otherwise you leave your luggage at the desk and come back later.

Until what time may I check-in?
Normally the reception desk is open from 06:00 a.m. To 10:00 p.m. So between 06:00 a.m. And 10:00 p.m. You can check-in when you want, please let us know if you know you will arrive later than 09:00 p.m.

When I check-out may I leave my luggage at the reception desk until I leave?
The day you leave you have to check-out before 10:30 a.m., but if you leave Monterosso later during the day you can leave your luggage at the reception desk area how long you want.

4. Hotel facilities (parking, laundry)

Does the hotel have internet access?
Yes the hotel lobby there are two computers for internet access and still in the lobby area you can have wireless internet access. No internet access is available in the rooms.

Does the hotel has an elevator?
No, unfortunately for the moment the hotel has no elevator.

Does the hotel has a laundry service?
Yes the hotel has a laundry service: if you give us your clothes during the morning to be washed they will be ready in the afternoon for around 5 or 6 p.m. Normally we wash, dry and fold your clothes and put them into your room when they are ready. We do not have dry cleaning facilities, we can only wash your clothes with washing machines and and dry them in a dryer. You can iron your clothes by yourself in our laundry room.

Does the hotel have a parking?
Yes.

May I reserve a parking spot at Hotel Villa Steno?
Normally there is no problem for the car park, but our parking is small and limited. This is the reason why it is not possible to reserve a spot ahead. So if the parking is full, for security reasons, you can come to the hotel with the car drop your staff and then we will help you to park your car in the parking close to the hotel (3 minutes walking – Euro 13,00 per day) or if it is full also to park along the road close to town.

5. Booking and reservations

How can I reserve a room at your hotel?
To reserve a room please send us an email (or a fax) request or fill the reservation request form on our web site and we will let you know if we have space or if we are fully booked. If we have a room available we will send you our availability letter where you will find a link to our secure site. Here you can confirm your reservation using your credit card details. When we receive your credit card details we will send you back our confirmation. Our confirmation email (or fax) is your confirmation, please keep it because without it the reservation is not valid.

What is your cancellation policy?
All reservations must be cancelled 15 days prior to the scheduled arrival day to avoid a penalty of one night's room charge. The credit card number you send us to confirm your reservation will not be charged. We will keep it only as a guarantee of your arrival and if you cancel your reservation 15 days prior to scheduled arrival day, there will be no charge at all. We will charge your credit card only if you do not come and do not cancel 15 days prior to the scheduled arrival day. Also for our policy, when you are here and you decide to leave earlier you will be charged for the entire period you reserved.

Can I get a fax or email confirmation of the booking?
Yes, you must have a confirmation, without our confirmation the reservation is not valid.

When I make a reservation may I get a confirmation number?
When we confirm a reservation we send a confirmation email or fax but we do not send a confirmation number. Our confirmation letter (email or fax) is your confirmation, please keep it because without it the reservation is not valid.

May I use a credit card to secure the reservation and a different one to pay when I will check-out?
Yes.

6. Arriving by train

From the train station in Monterosso - How do we get to the hotel, are there taxis/bus - how much will it cost? Or do we have to walk?
From the station to the hotel it takes 15 minutes walking (1 km.), but the last part is steep and can be difficult with luggage.
When you arrive at the train station with your luggage we suggest you to come to the hotel by taxi. The taxi ride from the station costs more or less 7 Euro. Taxis are available at the train station or at the public parking or we can call them from the hotel reception desk for you. There is no bus from the train station to the hotel.

Do we need train reservations from Milan/Rome/Florence/Venice to Monterosso al Mare?
Yes from main Italian cities it better to reserve your seat on the train.
You can buy the ticket with reservation of seats on line here or at every train station before going on the train. For Euro Star (ES) trains reservation is required, for Inter City (IC) trains is strongly suggested.

Is there a direct train from Milan to Monterosso al Mare?
Yes, there are many direct trains from Milano Centrale to Monterosso, please check the time table here.

Is there a direct train from Rome to Monterosso?
No, you have direct trains to La Spezia where you have to switch train to Monterosso.

Is there a direct train from Firenze to Monterosso?
No, you have to go to Pisa Centrale and change train to Monterosso, or to La spezia first and than to Monterosso.

Is there a direct train from Venice to Monterosso?
No, you have to go to Milano Centrale first and here change train to Monterosso.

Where can I park my car?
Our hotel has a private parking just in front of the hotel main entrance. Normally there is no problem for the car park, but our parking is small and limited. This is the reason why it is not possible to reserve a spot ahead. 8. Dinner reservations & restaurants

Should we have dinner reservations for our first night of arrival? Is it necessary to make dinner reservations in advance for the other nights that we are there?
No, it is not necessary to make dinner reservation so far in advance, you can book your restaurant when you are here and only few hours before dinner. Your arrival day if you know you arrive before dinner time 07:30 p.m. you can book when you arrive. If you arrive during dinner time or later (from 07:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.) it is better to book the restaurant before, but you have to be extremely sure of your arrival time, because normally restaurants if you are 15 or 20 minutes late they give your table to someone else.

Is there a restaurant inside the hotel?
No.

9. Hiking

How difficult is to walk from Monterosso to the other Cinque Terre towns?
The hiking path from Monterosso to Vernazza is the hardest one, with many steps, but it is also the most beautiful. It takes 1 hour and 30 minutes. From Vernazza to Corniglia is also difficult and it still takes 1 hour and 30 minutes.
From Corniglia to Manarola it takes only 45 minutes and it is an easy walk, from Manarola to Riomaggiore it is the easiest one and it takes only 30 minutes. From Manarola to Riomaggiore the path is called Via dell'Amore (Walk of Love).

Can you pick up the hiking trail from your place to Riomaggiore?
Yes the hiking trail number 2 "the blue trail" it starts in Monterosso and ends in Riomaggiore.

There is a fee to pay to walk the hiking paths?
Yes, you have to buy the Cinque Terre Card but only to walk the path number 2 from Monterosso to Riomaggiore, all the other walks are free of charge.

Where can I buy the Cinque Terre card? May I buy it at your hotel?
Hotels are not allowed to sell Cinque Terre Card and passes, so you can buy them at the National Park Tourist offices. There are two National Park Tourist Offices in town: one is at the train station on platform number 1 and one is on the main square in the old town, close to the children playground.

Can we walk the hiking path/trail number 2 from Monterosso to Riomaggiore by ourselves or do we need a guide?
You can walk it by yourselves.
